MIssouri S&T Receives Grant

Researchers are looking into new alternatives for chloride salt de-icers.

A research team from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla was awarded a grant for $450,000 from MoDOT to evaluate chloride alternative materials for de-icing in a two year study.  The hope is that these new materials could reduce or replace the corroding chloride salts that are traditionally used as de-icers.  The testing will include both lab and field trials of corn steep liquor, glycerin, and beet juice, as well as some other bio-based materials.  Link to the full story.
