Safe Room Guidance Updates by Jeffrey Ryan and Glenn Overcash

FEMA’s Building Science Division has recently completed updates of FEMA’s safe room resources including publications, FEMA P-361, Safe Rooms for Tornadoes and Hurricanes: Guidance for Community and Residential Safe Rooms (2024), and FEMA P-320, Taking Shelter from the Storm: Building a Safe Room for Your Home (2024).This session will introduce participants to significant changes in requirements for FEMA-funded safe rooms resulting from updates to both ICC 500, ICC/NSSA Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters (2023) and the FEMA Funding Criteria covered in FEMA P-361 (2024). The session will also preview the updated FEMA P-320 residential safe room design plans and latest safe room guidance included in the updated fact sheets. 

The presenters will be Jeffrey Ryan, RA (FEMA) and Glenn Overcash, PE (AECOM/FEMA) 

Credits: Attendees who participate in the majority of the event will be awarded a certificate of attendance for 1 PDH or 1 AIA CES LU/HSW.
